Who is Sparkdog?

Sparkdog was started by Clark Mackey after he spent several years building and maintaining web sites and learning the ways of the web. Those first experiences, beginning in 1995, were dominated by joy and enthusiasm for the web and, in particular, the web as a new landscape for communicating.

That joy quickly faded to frustration - frustration with site designs that failed to take the needs of visitors into account, frustration with static, brochure-like sites that failed to convey what a particular business was really all about, and frustration with the limits of HTML code and its tangle of structure and content. Those frustrations pushed Clark (and now Sparkdog) to think long and hard about how a person finds things, how they use a web site, and how online communication might work better. A lot better.

Clark was not alone in looking for a better way. Sites like A List Apart and book publishers like New Riders have helped lead the way towards a web that better serves its users. Sparkdog fully embraces this movement, promoting standards compliant websites and better findabilty.

We operate as an agency of talented professionals in search engine optimization, findability, database, and web design. We build and maintain marketing campaigns designed to meet your business goals whether that means happier customers, more customers, more members, or more profit.

Importantly, Sparkdog is not about building a web site as much as growing your business through better findability. We operate like a traditional advertising agency, with monthly reporting and long term relationships with our clients.
